🚀 Ethereum names the upgrade 2026: Hegota
🧩 What is Hegota?
The name of the upgrade after Glamsterdam, expected at the end of 2026.
A blend of Bogota (execution layer) + Heze (consensus layer).
The “nail” EIP is not finalized, decision to be made in February 2026.
📆 New upgrade cycle
Ethereum officially runs 2 hard forks/year.
Glamsterdam: first half of 2026
Hegota: second half of 2026
→ Smaller, regular upgrades, easier to predict than a “major overhaul”.
⚙️ What can Hegota bring?
Strong candidate: Verkle Trees (an important step for stateless nodes).
Further discussions on state expiry, history expiry, and optimizing the execution layer.
Goal: lighter nodes, easier participation in the network.
🔧 Where is Glamsterdam focusing?
Reducing the centralization of builders (ePBS).
Reducing bottlenecks in state access, adjusting gas closely to EVM resources.
Ideas that are too “heavy” will… be pushed to Hegota.
