One of the victims suffered a loss of 50 million dollars due to a simple mistake in "copy and paste" of the address.
Here are the details of the story to avoid falling into this trap:
⚠️ Scam Operation Details
* First test: The victim sent 50 dollars (USDT) as a "trial" to his own address that starts with 0xbaf4 and ends with 5F8b5.
* Address Poisoning Attack: As soon as the transaction was detected, the scammer immediately created a fake address (Spoofed Wallet) that had exactly the same start and end as the original address.
* The trap: The scammer sent a fake transaction with a zero or very small amount to the victim's wallet, making the forged address appear in the victim's "transaction history."
🚩 How did the disaster happen?
* Because of the design of most wallets that hide the middle part of long addresses and replace them with dots ... to improve the appearance.
* The victim (like many others) was used to checking only the first and last 4 symbols of the address.
* When the victim wanted to transfer the remaining amount (49,999,950 dollars), they copied the "forged" address from the transaction history instead of their real address.
✅ Lessons learned to protect your money:
* Never copy addresses from the transaction history: the transaction history is not a safe place to pull addresses from.
* Check the full address: do not only rely on the first and last symbols; scammers generate thousands of similar addresses in seconds.
* Use a trusted address list (Address Book): Save your personal addresses in the whitelist within the wallet or platform.
* Multiple verification: Always verify the address from the original source every time you make a large transfer.
Do you always check the full address before hitting the send button?
