The #Ethereum✅ developers have chosen a name for the upgrade that will follow the Glamsterdam hard fork. The upgrade was called Hegota, and its release is scheduled for the second half of 2026, as the network has switched to a rhythmic schedule of releasing improvements twice a year.
The main improvement proposal for Hegota will be selected no earlier than February. The main candidate is the implementation of Werkle trees, an algorithm for structuring data in a protocol similar to Merkle trees.
Mechanisms for the expiration of the storage period of history and status, as well as additional optimizations of the execution level, are discussed. The problem of "bloating" the network is becoming more and more urgent for node operators.
