Can humans overcome nature? When the Earth 🌏 has a fever 🤒, there will be no humans left.

Land reclamation is a good method that can solve the Taiwan issue once and for all! With 100,000 dump trucks working day and night, along with tens of thousands of excavators, it could take at most 3 months to half a year to open the road, fully achieving cross-strait unification! Some have also suggested: diverting the Yellow River into the sea, using the large amount of silt carried by the Yellow River to naturally fill it up, saving money and effort!

First, let's talk about the land reclamation plan. The first challenge this plan faces is the geographical scale of the Taiwan Strait. The Taiwan Strait runs northeast-southwest and is approximately 370 kilometers long; even the narrowest distance between Pingtan Island in Fujian and Hsinchu City in Taiwan is 130 kilometers, with an average width reaching 230 kilometers.

To fill such a vast sea area with land that can be traveled on requires an astronomical amount of earth and stone, and relying solely on 100,000 dump trucks and tens of thousands of excavators is completely insufficient for such a project. The mainstream dump trucks on the market have a single-load capacity of only a few dozen cubic meters. Even when calculated at maximum capacity, if 100,000 dump trucks operate 24 hours a day without stopping, the total volume transported in a month would be merely a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of earth and stone required for land reclamation.

More critically, there is the issue of transportation efficiency. Dump truck transportation relies on a mature road system, but at the initial stage of land reclamation, there is no road surface available for driving; vehicles can only operate on temporarily laid simple pathways, significantly limiting travel speed. Moreover, the continuous operation capacity of large engineering equipment is also limited; excavators need regular maintenance, and drivers need to take breaks. The so-called "day and night alternating" full-load operation cannot be maintained long-term in actual projects.

The geological and climatic conditions of the Taiwan Strait add countless variables to the land reclamation project. This sea area is located at the junction of the Eurasian Plate and the Pacific Plate, with a base of Mesozoic metamorphic rock covered by thick layers of Cenozoic sedimentary rock. There are also fault zones present, and seismic activities are very frequent; historically, there have been multiple earthquakes of magnitude 6 and above in the surrounding areas, with the highest seismic intensity reaching 8 degrees.

The land and roads created by land reclamation need to withstand such geological activities, making the seismic design extremely challenging. Even if completed, long-term safety cannot be guaranteed. At the same time, the Taiwan Strait belongs to a subtropical monsoon climate and is affected by typhoons 2 to 3 times a year, where strong winds and heavy rains can easily cause huge waves.

These huge waves will continuously wash away the slopes of the reclaimed area, easily sweeping away the freshly filled earth and stone, which not only delays the project progress but also significantly increases project costs. The flow speed of the currents within the strait can reach 1.5 to 2 meters per second, with tidal differences exceeding 4 meters; these hydrological conditions continuously erode the foundation of the land reclamation project, greatly undermining its stability.

Now, looking at the plan to divert the Yellow River for land reclamation, this plan seems to leverage natural forces to save money and effort, but it actually violates the hydrological laws of the Yellow River and is equally unfeasible. The Yellow River is indeed famous for carrying a large amount of silt, with an average annual sediment load of about 1.6 billion tons; although it has decreased in recent years, it still carries about 1.2 billion tons of sediment annually.

However, the runoff conditions of the Yellow River cannot support the demand for diversion and reclamation. Most areas of the Yellow River basin are in arid and semi-arid regions, where water resources are relatively scarce, with an average annual runoff of only 58 billion cubic meters. Since the mid-1980s, the Yellow River basin has entered a drought period, especially after the 1990s, where precipitation and runoff have significantly decreased, with a water yield reduction of 19%.

More severely, there is the issue of river stoppage in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Between 1972 and 1997, the Yellow River experienced stoppages for 21 years, with the 1990s seeing annual stoppages. In 1997, the Lijin Station in Shandong recorded 13 stoppages throughout the year, totaling 226 days without water flowing to the sea for 330 days. To divert the Yellow River into the Taiwan Strait, there must first be enough water to support long-distance transport, but currently, the water volume of the Yellow River is barely enough to maintain its ecological balance.

Academicians and experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have pointed out that the Yellow River needs 21 billion cubic meters of water annually to maintain its ecological balance, while currently, the total diversion capacity along the river has reached 6,000 cubic meters per second, far exceeding the total runoff in normal years. In dry years, provinces and regions are competing for water, leaving no surplus water available for diversion and reclamation.

Even without considering the water volume issue, the diversion of the Yellow River itself would cause huge ecological and livelihood disasters. Historically, the Yellow River has changed its course 26 times, with each diversion accompanied by large-scale floods, bringing devastating impacts on the lives and property safety of downstream residents. Since the founding of New China, the government has made tremendous efforts to develop water conservancy, allowing the Yellow River to maintain stability; if forced to divert, it will inevitably destroy the existing water conservancy system.

Currently, the lower reaches of the Yellow River have formed a situation of a suspended river, even a second-level suspended river, where the main river channel is higher than the floodplain, and the floodplain is higher than the ground outside the levee. The river's flood capacity is already weak, and forced diversion is likely to cause breaches, potentially flooding an area of 10,000 to 30,000 square kilometers, displacing countless people.

Moreover, the sediment deposition pattern of the Yellow River does not support the idea of land reclamation. Under normal circumstances, only half of the silt carried by the Yellow River can be washed into the sea; during stoppages, most of the silt accumulates in the river channel. Even if the Yellow River could be diverted into the Taiwan Strait, a large amount of silt would accumulate in the river channels along the way, and the actual amount of silt reaching the strait would be very small, making it impossible to achieve the goal of natural land reclamation.

Those who believe that land reclamation or the diversion of the Yellow River can quickly solve the Taiwan issue clearly overlook the practical difficulties of project implementation and the constraints of natural laws. Cross-strait unification is the common wish of all Chinese people, and the realization of this goal requires a correct path based on practical circumstances, taking into account historical context, legal facts, and the fundamental interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait.

Plans like land reclamation and the diversion of the Yellow River not only involve enormous engineering volume and risks but also consume massive amounts of manpower, material resources, and financial resources, potentially leading to ecological disasters and livelihood issues, which are completely inconsistent with the common interests of compatriots on both sides of the strait.
