International standard promotes responsible practices in the use of artificial intelligence and reduces operational risks.

Binance, the largest cryptocurrency platform in the world by number of users and trading volume, announces that it has obtained ISO/IEC 42001 certification, a global standard for responsible governance of artificial intelligence (AI).

The certification reinforces Binance's commitment to the ethical, transparent, and secure adoption of AI technologies across all its operations.

Published in December 2023, ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard that establishes requirements for an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS), guiding organizations in the governance and responsible management of AI technologies.

The certification covers both the internal use of AI by Binance and the design, implementation, and management of AI systems across the company.

She ensures that AI tools are applied responsibly, in compliance with international standards, and supports the safe development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of these technologies.

The process also ensures that social impacts and effects on individuals and groups are assessed before implementation. By adopting this framework throughout the entire AI lifecycle, Binance strengthens the security, reliability, and accountability of its systems, aligning with emerging regulations such as the EU's AI Act.

“ISO/IEC 42001 validates the framework we have built around responsible AI. Governance, in simple terms, means having clear rules and effective oversight, but in practice, it is about ensuring that our AI behaves as expected, even as it becomes more complex. Our team supports this through rigorous risk assessments, strong data protections, and continuous monitoring, keeping our systems secure, predictable, and aligned with global standards,” says Jimmy Su, Chief Security Officer of Binance.

The ISO/IEC 42001 certification integrates with the ISO programs already adopted by Binance, such as ISO 27001 (information security), ISO 27701 (privacy), and ISO 22301 (business continuity).

With a unified approach, the company optimizes compliance and audit processes while enabling efficient and scalable AI governance, supported by consolidated systems and clear responsibilities among teams.

“Achieving ISO/IEC 42001 certification reflects Binance's strong commitment to responsible innovation,” comments Richard Teng, co-CEO of Binance. “Along with our recent full regulatory authorization granted by the FSRA of ADGM, it reinforces the governance and oversight standards we are building globally. As AI technologies evolve, we will continue to uphold the highest levels of transparency and user protection, strengthening trust across the entire Web3 sector.”

The certification was granted by A-LIGN, a compliance evaluator recognized and accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to conduct ISO/IEC 42001 certifications.
