🧠 What is the settlement layer — in simple words
To understand Bitcoin, it is important to know one concept — settlement layer.
🔹 Settlement is the final stage:
when money is finally transferred from one party to another
and no one can cancel it.
In traditional finance:
you pay with a card — instantly;
but the actual settlement can take days;
and it depends on banks, clearinghouses, rules.
In Bitcoin:
the transaction is confirmed by a block;
after a few confirmations, it is final;
without banks, without permissions, without “changed minds.”
📌 That’s why:
Bitcoin does not chase TPS;
it focuses on reliability and immutability;
other layers (L2) can be built on top of it.
👉 Bitcoin is the foundation.
Not the interface, not UX, not “convenient.”
But the base on which everything holds.
