IMF Maintains Negotiations on El Salvador's Bitcoin Strategy and the Discontinuation of the Chivo Wallet

According to Foresight News, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reported that discussions with the government of El Salvador regarding its policy involving Bitcoin and the sale of the state digital wallet Chivo are ongoing. According to the IMF, relevant progress has already been achieved during the negotiations.

At the guidelines level, the Salvadoran government has agreed not to actively expand its Bitcoin reserves and is continuing the process of exiting the operation of the Chivo wallet. Despite this, the National Bitcoin Office of El Salvador continues to acquire one Bitcoin per day and reported, on December 22, that the total reserves reached 7,509 BTC.

The IMF set the end of 2025 as the deadline for El Salvador to fully meet the established commitments.
