As of 9:20 AM on December 24, the quotes of the two largest cryptocurrencies lost more than 3% and 4% in percentage terms, falling below $87.5 thousand and $2.95 thousand, respectively. The total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies dropped below $3 trillion. Crypto assets have been around these levels since December 15, showing insignificant temporary increases or decreases in prices.
Against the backdrop of falling rates over the past 24 hours, crypto exchanges liquidated positions with leverage for 85 thousand traders for a total of about $260 million, according to Coinglass. The majority of losses — $180 million — were borne by those betting on the rise of cryptocurrencies (long positions, longs).
