The United States experienced the longest government shutdown in its history, lasting 43 days and causing disruptions in vital economic sectors in the country, as well as the cancellation of hundreds of thousands of jobs.
The shutdown led to the layoff of approximately 670,000 American workers, including those in highly vital and strategic sectors such as civil aviation and air navigation, with around 60,000 air traffic controllers and airport security personnel temporarily stopping work, in addition to losses estimated at about 14 billion dollars from the GDP.
The public budget and the U.S. debt ceiling, which was raised to higher levels last September, were among the reasons that increased uncertainty about the possibility of controlling the U.S. financial deficit, which played in favor of gold.
