How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work on Hedera?

Hedera uses what is known as the hashgraph consensus model, which allows for extremely fast settlement on the Hedera network. Transaction speeds can reach up to hundreds of thousands transactions per second due to the sharding processes performed by individual networks of nodes. Sharding happens simultaneously throughout the network, which is what supports its speed. Consensus is reached by processes referred to as gossip-about-gossip and virtual voting.
