🎶 "Where are we going to end up?"
As the song by Marco Antonio Solís goes: Where are we going to end up? 🎤 Really, looking at these figures, one wonders how far the cost of living in our land will go. It's a constant uncertainty that hits our pockets and spirits every time we enter a market, from Caracas to the last corner of our country 🫓🚩.
Here I break down the harsh reality of what is happening with our economy:
💸 The cost of eating in March
During the month of March, an average family of five required $692.32 solely to cover their basic food needs, according to data from Cendas-FVM.
This amount represents an increase of 7.24% in foreign currency compared to February. 🧮💸
📉 The abyss of the Minimum Wage
The report highlights a severe erosion of the purchasing power of Venezuelans 🇻🇪:
Legal Minimum Wage: Stagnant at 130 bolívares since 2022. 📉
Real equivalence: According to the BCV, that salary is barely equivalent to about 27 cents of a dollar. 🪙🚫
Purchasing power: A monthly minimum wage barely covers 0.04% of the basic basket! In other words, it doesn't even cover a kilo of flour! 🌽
🆘 What is needed to survive?
For a household to acquire all basic products, it would require:
The equivalent of more than 2,400 minimum wages. 🤯
Or the sum of just over 4.6 food and economic war bonuses (estimated at $150 each). 🆘
🧐 The Intriguing Fact
Did you know that a Venezuelan would need to work more than 6 years to pay for the food of a single month? ⏳ If we calculate with the minimum wage of $0.27, exactly 2,564 months of work would be required to cover the $692.32 of the basket. A figure that defies any economic logic and the endurance of our people. 🇻🇪💔
