Grayscale Investment Trust was established by Digital Currency Group in 2013. DCG is the most powerful investment institution in the cryptocurrency space, and you can find its presence in almost all major exchanges and projects you know.
As a subsidiary of DCG, Grayscale manages several funds including BTC and ETH, both of which have passed SEC certification, becoming the only two options for institutional legal investment and retail investors in the U.S. stock market.
Grayscale holdings refer to a form of investment where fund managers use the funds within the fund to invest in stocks, bonds, or other business operations, representing a process of anticipating price increases for the stocks. This is generally used in fund investments and is a common operational method within fund investment. Grayscale holdings refer to investors purchasing cryptocurrencies held by Grayscale Trust. Grayscale Trust is an institutional-level investment tool that allows individuals and institutions to access the explosive returns of the cryptocurrency market in a relatively simple way. This holding method is commonly used in long-term investment strategies for mainstream cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, featuring risk diversification, leverage effects, and convenient trading characteristics, providing investors with a variety of investment options and profit opportunities.
Shortly after FIL was launched, it was included in Grayscale's holdings and purchases were made. On March 15, 2021, Grayscale established the FIL trust product, purchasing for the first time near $80 on March 17. Over the next two years, Grayscale spent a total of $10.27 million on 34 purchases of FIL, accumulating approximately 110,000 pieces of FIL, with the highest purchase price at $170, the lowest purchase price at $19, with an average cost of around $90.
In the following year 2024, there were a total of 34 increases from 2021 to 2022, acquiring approximately 110,000 pieces; in 2024, there were a total of 32 increases of FIL, adding up to 1,752,029 pieces of FIL, including significant increases on March 29, 2024, purchasing 351,900 pieces; on April 10, 2024, purchasing 101,800 pieces; on April 27, 2024, purchasing 199,800 pieces; on May 29, 2024, purchasing 293,700 pieces.
Why has Grayscale Fund started to buy FIL again in large amounts? Professional institutions are more willing to do 'right-side trading' when making investments during the bottom range, meaning they will enter the market only after confirming the trend has started. Therefore, they do not buy at the 'lowest point' but at a 'certainty.' Perhaps from Grayscale's perspective, this is currently the bottom range for FIL. The fundamentals may not have improved significantly, but they are not getting worse, and the certainty of future improvement has increased. This shows that Grayscale's 350,000 purchases are sufficient proof that Wall Street has a strong consensus that it is optimistic about FIL.

Note: Grayscale will not sell its managed digital assets, and there is currently no redemption mechanism. The reduction (negative number) in holdings shown in the chart is the annual fee deducted by Grayscale from time to time. The total scale of assets managed by Grayscale Trust changes with the price of the cryptocurrency.
