Bitcoin has gone through many price cycles for over 12 years. It has recovered each time to reach new highs. As with any new technology, cycles of expansion and recession are expected. In the dot-com era of the late 90s, the valuation of many tech stocks rose rapidly, then fell sharply. This illustrates the potential impact of speculative bubbles on different asset classes, including crypto-assets. The latter can experience similar volatility and risk before stabilizing or achieving long-term growth.
Some major bitcoin investors believe that its fluctuations are typical of young markets. According to them, bitcoin will experience ups and downs with smaller fluctuations and longer periods in between, until it eventually achieves relative stability at some point. But only time will tell.
