El 25 de agosto de 1991. Helsinki, Finlandia...Un estudiante de informática de 21 años, llamado Linus Torvalds, estaba frustrado. Había gastado sus ahorros en un ordenador nuevo, pero el sistema que tenía era limitado y cerrado.
Así que hizo lo que parecía una locura: decidió escribir su propio sistema operativo desde cero, sentado en su pequeño apartamento.
Ese día, publicó un mensaje modesto en un foro de internet:
«Estoy haciendo un sistema operativo (gratuito). Solo es un hobby, no será algo grande ni profesional...»

Fue, posiblemente, la predicción más equivocada de la historia.

Ese "hobby" se convirtió lo que conocenos hoy como Linux. Pero lo que lo hizo revolucionario no fue solo el código, fue la decisión radical que Linus tomó después.
