Spent some time today on a CreatorPad task digging into OpenGradient — specifically what "trustless AI" means in practice. $OPG , @OpenGradient , #OPG
June 15, Upbit lists OPG. Volume spikes 605% to $357.69M in 24 hours. Big number. But here's what actually stuck: all that flow routes through the payment layer — Permit2, Base, OPG settlement. Clean, on-chain. None of it tells you whether the AI inference layer is being cryptographically verified.
The trustless claim has two layers. Payment: genuinely trustless — Permit2-settled, auditable. Inference: mostly TEE-attested — you're trusting an Intel hardware enclave and the software running inside it. zkML, the mathematically provable option, is 1,000 to 10,000x slower and doesn't scale to LLMs. So most inference runs on TEE. Real trust reduction vs. centralized cloud, yes. But "trustless" oversells what hardware attestation actually delivers.
The architecture docs frame it as a verification spectrum — developer picks the level, not the protocol. Found that more honest than the headline pitch. Still, if TEE is carrying most of the weight at scale... what does "trustless AI network" actually mean when it counts.
