A son of Iran’s president has said that the country’s next supreme leader would be well protected, addressing growing speculation about leadership succession in Iran.
In remarks shared with local media, he stated that the political and security institutions responsible for protecting the nation’s top leadership are fully prepared to ensure the safety of any future supreme leader. The comment comes at a time when analysts inside and outside the country continue to discuss the eventual transition from the current supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who has led Iran since 1989.
The president, Masoud Pezeshkian, took office in 2024 and has largely avoided direct public discussion about succession. However, political debate around the topic has intensified in recent years, particularly as Iran navigates economic pressure, regional tensions, and domestic political divisions.
According to the president’s son, the country’s security structure remains capable of safeguarding senior officials and maintaining stability during any future leadership transition. He added that protecting the supreme leader is considered a top national priority.
Iran’s constitution assigns the responsibility of selecting a new supreme leader to the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body that would convene if the position becomes vacant. Until then, the government continues to emphasize continuity in leadership and security across the country’s political system.
