U.S. and India Unveil Interim Trade Deal Framework

On February 6, the White House announced that the United States and India have agreed on an interim framework aimed at advancing mutually beneficial trade. Reported by Jin10, the framework reaffirms both nations’ commitment to ongoing negotiations toward a broader bilateral trade agreement.

The initiative, launched by U.S. President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2025, focuses on expanding market access on both sides. Under the interim deal, India will reduce or remove tariffs on all U.S. industrial goods, along with a wide range of American food and agricultural products.

In exchange, the U.S. will apply an 18% “reciprocal tariff” on Indian exports, covering sectors such as textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, plastics and rubber, organic chemicals, home décor, handicrafts, and selected machinery.
