The Iranian Permanent Mission to the United Nations said in a social media statement on the 28th that Iran is entitled to take all necessary actions within its territorial waters to address security concerns. It emphasized that, as the main coastal state bordering the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has the legitimate authority to implement appropriate and proportionate measures in response to emerging threats.
Iran added that such measures are intended to safeguard navigation and prevent the strait from being used for hostile or military activities. The statement also accused the United States of unlawful actions that threaten the safety of international shipping. Furthermore, it stressed that any disruption to maritime traffic in the Persian Gulf, along with its consequences, would be the responsibility of the U.S. side.
