Him beats expection.

Pixar’s “Hoppers” came out in first place at the domestic box office for a second weekend in a row, grossing another $28.5 million, according to early estimates reported in the Hollywood trade publications, while the newest Colleen Hoover adaptation “Reminders of Him” came in second with a respectable $18.2 million—outperforming expectations.

Key Facts

Ticket sales for “Hoppers” remained strong for the Pixar film’s second weekend in theaters—only a 36% decline from its opening weekend gross of $45.3 million at 4,000 North American theaters.

“Hoppers” debut last weekend was Pixar’s best opening weekend for an original, non-sequel film since “Coco” in 2017—a film that opened with $50.8 million, but saw a 45.8% decline its second weekend, according to Box Office Mojo data.

Meanwhile, “Reminders of Him” came in second and saw a markedly better performance at the box office compared to the last Hoover adaptation—”Regretting You,” which debuted to $13.6 million last October and only grossed $48.8 million at domestic theaters.

The film came out ahead of the $10-$12 million expectations reported by Variety last week, as well as slightly ahead of the $15-$18 million estimate from Box Office Pro.

However, it’s still far from the blockbuster debut “It Ends With Us” saw in 2024—grossing $50 million over its opening weekend and $148.5 million in North American theaters, amid a simultaneous scandal involving star Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni.

What Else Scored At The Box Office This Weekend?

Third place went to “undertone,” a Canadian horror film now getting a wider U.S. release through A24. The film saw a solid $9.3 million gross on its opening weekend in 2,570 theaters in North America. The “undertone” was only made for a roughly $500,000 budget, A24 acquired the film for an estimated $3 million to $4 million, Variety reported. It slightly beat expectations of $7 million, but notably surpassed sales for “Scream 7,” the most recent entry to the now decades-long slasher franchise that opened in February. Although this is the film’s third week in theaters, it still managed to gross $8.3 million—officially crossing the $100 million mark at the domestic box office.

‘the Bride!’ Bombs

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” saw a disappointing second weekend after an opening weekend bomb. The “Frankenstein” adaptation only grossed $2.1 million at domestic theaters this weekend, after a $7 million opening weekend. The film has struggled to find an audience, despite a star-studded cast including Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz and Jake Gyllenhaal. It was reportedly filmed with a budget of $80 million to $90 million.
