Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would support a U.S. proposal for three-way talks with the United States and Russia if it helps secure more prisoner exchanges and moves toward a leaders’ meeting.
Speaking in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said discussions between Ukrainian and U.S. officials are ongoing, with talks also covering Ukraine’s post-war recovery. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev is also holding separate talks with U.S. officials.
Zelenskyy said the proposed talks would involve national security advisers from all three countries. He stressed that Ukraine would not agree to give up any territory it currently controls, including parts of eastern Donbas.
He added that ideas such as a free economic zone in eastern Ukraine would need public approval and said Ukraine is focused on achieving lasting peace with strong security guarantees.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine and its European partners should continue backing U.S.-led peace efforts, while keeping other options open if they fail.
Potential Market Impact at a Glance
The renewed push for U.S.-led three-way talks between Ukraine and Russia introduces measured geopolitical optimism, but markets are likely to stay cautious until concrete outcomes emerge.
Energy markets: Any progress toward dialogue can slightly ease risk premiums in oil and natural gas, especially in Europe, though prices will remain sensitive to headlines given the lack of a ceasefire or territorial agreement.
European assets: European equities and the euro could see modest support if talks advance, as reduced conflict risk improves the outlook for regional growth and investment sentiment.
Defense and commodities: Defense stocks may pause after recent gains, while industrial commodities linked to reconstruction (steel, construction materials) could see early speculative interest, though real impact depends on post-war clarity.
Global risk sentiment: Overall, the news supports a risk-neutral to mildly risk-on tone, but markets are unlikely to price in a major shift until there are tangible agreements on prisoners, security guarantees, or leadership-level talks.
