Litecoin (LTC) has fallen nearly 60% from its peak last year, returning to price levels last seen in previous market cycles. Despite maintaining relatively high liquidity compared to many altcoins, LTC has struggled to escape the broader bearish pressure weighing on the crypto market in recent months.
While the sharp decline has dampened short-term sentiment, several structural and on-chain indicators suggest that demand for Litecoin has not disappeared. Although these signals may not translate into an immediate price recovery, they could provide the foundation for LTC to stabilize and potentially position itself for a longer-term rebound.
Emerging Demand Persists Despite Market Weakness
One notable development supporting Litecoin’s underlying demand comes from Japan. SBI VC Trade, a cryptocurrency exchange operated under SBI Holdings, recently expanded its crypto lending services to include LTC. Through the platform’s Lending Coin program, Japanese users can now lend Litecoin to earn interest.
The lending program supports more than 30 digital assets, including BTC, ETH, XRP, LTC, BCH, DOT, LINK, ADA, DOGE, and SHIB. The inclusion of Litecoin reflects its continued relevance among established cryptocurrencies, particularly in regulated markets.
Beyond lending, Litecoin continues to demonstrate strong real-world utility. According to the latest report from CoinGate, a leading crypto payment gateway, LTC accounted for 17.7% of all crypto payment transactions on the platform. This places Litecoin behind only Bitcoin and USDC in terms of usage.
The Litecoin Foundation noted that this figure has risen from 16.4% in December, highlighting a gradual but consistent increase in transactional demand. While this growth alone is not sufficient to offset the broader market sell-off, it reinforces Litecoin’s role as a widely used payment asset.
On-Chain Metrics Suggest Strength Beneath the Surface
On-chain data further supports the idea that Litecoin’s network fundamentals remain resilient. One key metric is the activity surrounding Litecoin’s optional privacy layer, MWEB (MimbleWimble Extension Block).
MWEB recently reached a new milestone, with over 400,000 LTC pegged in, marking a record high. MWEB enhances Litecoin transactions through features such as confidential transactions and stealth addresses, offering users greater privacy without altering Litecoin’s base layer.
The growing amount of LTC locked into MWEB suggests rising interest in private, on-chain transactions and may help absorb some of the ongoing selling pressure.
“Litecoin’s opt-in privacy layer, MWEB, set a new record for peg-ins last month. Real-world utility has been the mission since day one,” the Litecoin Foundation stated.
Another notable signal comes from BitInfoCharts data, which reveals a rare divergence between Litecoin’s market price and its average on-chain transaction value. Historically, these two metrics tend to move in the same direction. However, in recent months, while LTC has declined by roughly 55% since October, the average transaction value has continued to trend higher.
This divergence may indicate accumulation behavior, as larger participants potentially use broader market weakness as an opportunity rather than an exit.
A Challenging Road to Recovery Remains
Despite these supportive signals, Litecoin’s recovery path remains uncertain. At around $60, LTC is still down approximately 85% from its all-time high and about 60% from last year’s peak. Broader macro conditions, market liquidity, and overall risk appetite will continue to play a decisive role in determining Litecoin’s next major move.
For now, Litecoin appears to be in a phase of endurance rather than expansion — supported by real-world usage, steady on-chain activity, and persistent demand, but still constrained by a challenging market environment.
