Today I will talk about an important development that took place in Pakistan’s National Assembly.
The government temporarily set aside the scheduled private members’ business to first address the rapidly changing security situation in the Middle East, especially after the recent US-Israel strikes on Iran. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry requested the Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq, to suspend the regular agenda so the House could discuss the regional crisis.
However, before the debate officially began, the government introduced the Virtual Assets Bill 2026 through a supplementary agenda. Since the bill had already been approved by the Senate and reviewed by the relevant parliamentary committee, it was quickly presented and passed through a voice vote within minutes.
This new law is significant because it clears the path for establishing a specialized regulatory body. This authority will be responsible for licensing, monitoring, and supervising virtual assets, including cryptocurrencies, across Pakistan. The move is seen as a major step toward formal crypto regulation in the country.
After the bill’s approval, the Assembly shifted its focus to the Middle East situation. Members strongly criticized the US and Israel over their actions against Iran and paid tribute to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Several lawmakers described him as a prominent leader of the Muslim world.
PPP leaders Syeda Shehla Raza and Abdul Qadir Patel delivered passionate speeches. They expressed concern that Muslim nations were being targeted and warned that rising tensions could eventually impact Pakistan as well. Some members urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to adopt a clearer and stronger policy stance rather than limiting the response to statements.
Barrister Gohar Ali Khan described Israel’s actions as a breach of international law, referencing diplomatic efforts that were reportedly underway before the attacks. Meanwhile, PTI members criticized earlier remarks that suggested nominating former US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Other lawmakers raised concerns about regional alliances, including the growing India-Israel relationship and tensions involving Afghanistan.
In conclusion, the National Assembly session highlighted two major developments: the swift passage of Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Bill 2026, marking progress in crypto regulation, and an intense political debate over escalating tensions in the Middle East.#Binance
