Token distribution can determine how fair and decentralized a blockchain project becomes over time. Instead of launching with a traditional token sale, the Midnight network introduced a distribution model designed to prioritize community participation, fairness, and transparency.
Through @MidnightNetwork (https://www.binance.com/en/square/profile/midnightnetwork), the goal is to make the $NIGHT token accessible to a broad Web3 audience rather than concentrating it among early investors. Eligible participants from several major ecosystems — including Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRPL, BNB Chain, Avalanche, and Brave , can take part in the distribution.
Eligibility is determined using a historical blockchain snapshot. At that time, wallets needed to hold at least $100 worth of the network’s native token to qualify. This helps reduce bot activity and ensures the distribution rewards real users across these ecosystems.
The distribution itself happens in three phases.
The first phase is Glacier Drop, where the full supply of 24 billion $NIGHT tokens becomes available for eligible participants to claim. However, claimed tokens are initially locked in a redemption smart contract on the Cardano network and will gradually unlock later. This system helps maintain fairness and prevents immediate market pressure.
Next comes Scavenger Mine, where any unclaimed tokens from Glacier Drop are redistributed. Participants can contribute computing power to perform tasks that help launch the Midnight network and earn a portion of the remaining tokens.
The final stage is Lost-and-Found, which takes place after the Midnight mainnet launch. This gives users who were eligible but missed the original claim another opportunity to recover part of their allocation.
Overall, Midnight’s model feels like an evolution of the typical airdrop system. Instead of simply dropping tokens into wallets, the process encourages participation while still keeping distribution open and decentralized. If successful, this approach could influence how future Web3 projects distribute tokens and build stronger communities from the start.
