Recovery depends on where the tokens landed (an exchange/custodial address vs a wallet you control) and whether that chain/token is supported.
Easiest recovery steps (do these in order)
1. Stop and collect evidence
Copy the transaction ID (TxID/hash), sending & receiving addresses, amount, token symbol, and the exact network you used (e.g., BSC, ERC-20, Tron). You’ll need these for every next step.
2. Verify the transaction on a block explorer
Paste the TxID into the appropriate explorer (Etherscan, BscScan, etc.) to confirm the transaction succeeded and where the tokens landed.
3. Identify the receiving wallet type
Custodial (exchange or service) — e.g., Binance, Coinbase: move to step 4.
Non-custodial (you control private key/seed) — skip to step 6.
4. If the funds went to your Binance account or another exchange
Use the exchange’s self-service recovery tool (Binance/Binance.US provide deposit recovery tools) or open a support ticket — include TxID, addresses, token, network, screenshots. Exchanges may recover supported tokens but may charge fees or decline unsupported networks. Expect processing time.
5. If the funds went to someone else’s custodial address
Contact that platform’s support immediately and provide full transaction details. If the recipient platform doesn’t support that network for the token, recovery may be impossible.
6. If you control the destination wallet (non-custodial)
Do not share your seed/private key with strangers. Instead import the wallet’s private key/seed into a reputable wallet that supports the network where the tokens currently sit (e.g., import to MetaMask and enable the BSC network). Once visible, either withdraw to the correct network via a trusted cross-chain bridge or wrap/bridge the token back to the intended chain.
7. Safety & final steps
Never enter private keys on unknown websites. Save copies of all correspondence and TxIDs. If recovery requires third-party intervention, keep proof of identity and transaction details ready. Be prepared for fees and delays — in some scenarios recovery isn’t possible.
