The bank identified this level as a base scenario, while providing an optimistic scenario expecting the Bitcoin price to exceed 189,000 dollars, should the pace of investment flows accelerate and risk appetite improve. In contrast, a pessimistic scenario suggested a price drop to around 78,500 dollars if macroeconomic conditions worsen and recessionary pressures increase, according to a report overseen by Alex Saunders, head of global quantitative macroeconomic strategy at City.

Bitcoin is currently trading near 88,000 dollars, down about 30% from its peak recorded in late October last year, following a sharp sell-off that followed the strong rise seen in the market earlier in the year. The report noted that outflows from Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have started to decline in recent weeks, which may reflect a gradual stabilization in the market.

City analysts wrote: "Our forecasts, particularly regarding Bitcoin, depend on continued investor appetite, with flows estimated at around 15 billion dollars into exchange-traded funds, which could push cryptocurrency prices to higher levels."

The report also pointed out that the clarity of the regulatory framework in the United States is a key factor in supporting future demand, as the U.S. Senate is currently discussing its own version of the clarity law passed by the House of Representatives, which is legislation that could put Bitcoin under the supervision of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), potentially encouraging broader institutional participation.

In contrast, the pessimistic scenario assumes broader economic pressures and a weakening appetite for high-risk assets, factors that had driven Bitcoin to its lowest levels in several months last November, amid concerns related to technology stock valuations and the global macro economy.
