The original hyperinflation minting mechanism from the Terra ecosystem collapse era was largely disabled after the crash, but the chain still technically allows limited minting under certain network conditions and governance rules.
Here’s the important distinction:
Uncontrolled algorithmic minting (the death spiral between UST and LUNA) is effectively gone.Protocol-level minting capability still exists inside the blockchain codebase.
That means new LUNC can still enter circulation through:
staking rewardsvalidator emissionsgovernance-approved changesspecific on-chain modulesoccasional reminting mechanics tied to burns or community pool operations
This is why people say:
“Minting hasn’t fully stopped.”
Because technically, the chain is still inflationary at a low level unless governance changes it again.
A lot of confusion came after Binance’s burn program. Binance has been burning trading fees in LUNC, which reduces supply, but burns do not automatically mean minting is disabled forever. The network can still create new tokens through emissions.
The key thing to watch is:
Net supply change
not just burns alone.

burns > minted coins → supply decreases (deflationary)minted coins > burns → supply expands again (inflationary)
