Chapter One
THE WRONG INTRODUCTION TO CRYPTO
Like sister; it’s finally vacation and I am planning to find my own stand in the online world. But now that you’ve mentioned it, I will try it when I go online although I don’t have money for investment though. What to do? Abena says to her friend salomay over the phone as soon as she steps into her bedroom after returning from church.
Then I’ll send you some money to make the investment. I simply need a referral. Her friend says over the phone.
After the call is over, Abena sighs heavily over the mess she created early in the morning before leaving for church right after witnessing her handiwork. She motivates herself to clean and organize her room; but everything changes the moment her tired skin reaches the soft comfort of her bedsheets. The laziness kicks in. The hanging AC seeps in as she reminds herself that her room has to be cleaned while slowly falling into slumber.
A loud noise (a phone call) brings her back with the ragging voice of her mother at the other end of the line asking her if she had bought the things she requested Abena to buy from town after church. To which Abena said yes too. I have been calling you for the past 1hr now. This puzzled Abena as she quickly checks her phone again and nearly jumps of the bed against the realization that she had been asleep for the past 2hrs. She apologizes to her mum informing her that she fell asleep upon returning home. She cleans her room and makes dinner after the call.
Crypto, crypto, crypto! I have been hearing about it but I don’t know what it is. I will find out what it is today. Those are the words Abena muttered to herself as she finally tunes in online at 8pm in her cozy pajamas. “What is Crypto?” Those are the words she slides effortlessly into her search bar. Her curiosity climbs after reading the definition. She moves over to a video search platform to inquire more information while, replying to her friends online from messaging apps. She applies to her friend’s referral on a freshly released gig. Invest, do tasks and earn some cash. This returns her an income of 120 Ghana cedis. She quickly pays of her friend’s initial investment and moves on to start a new conversation with another friend in crypto.

I am interested in cryptocurrency. Can you give me some insights on it? She employs her friend to an online conversation but her message has not been seen yet. At the meantime; she involves herself in the world of trading and crypto only to realize that this is a new found interest. A topic she could add to her list of inspired and passionate fields that she could potential conquer. She decided it’s an unstable list of things to keep up with so she pulls out that special diary she bought for a cause as this. No matter how many times I fail; I am going to start over and over again. She encourages herself. She lists all her passions and interest. Crypto, Drop shipping, Selling e books and e templates, freelancing, programmer, consultancy, and the list continued. After writing her list, Abena is about to watch a video on “crypto for beginners” when she spots a different video; “here is why motivation will not work for you.” The topic grabs her attention and Abena being Abena gives in with a click. For 15 strong minutes of her time, she is being told why, and how to beat laziness. Motivation flow like an endless river at the end of the video pushing her to prepare for the next day ahead. She even writes a whole schedule for how she’s going to go about her day to come tomorrow. She does all this knowing all too well that those motivation might die anytime soon or maybe after an hour or two. Maybe even the next day. Abena tries returning back to “crypto for beginners” but sigh; who can beat the algorithm. “Village wife vs. Side chick” a video hanging on her feed brings itself to light. The temptation peaks inside her prompting her to a well elaborated conclusion. I am just a beginner to this crypto quest of mine. And besides, this crypto thing might be difficult, who knows. Let me just watch this video to ease my brain from potential and incoming stress. And with that said, Abena concludes her night with the drama, “Village wife vs. side chick” and a few episodes of the Asian drama she had been anticipation before her vacation even begun. However, a call from her mother in the living room sends her on a quick little errand. Abena returns to her room and after saying a prayer she dives back to the movie. I might fall asleep in the middle of an episode and I don’t want to fall asleep without remembering my God and savior, Jesus Christ. She also drives herself to read a verse and two before the movie proceeds.
