Today Ethereum's core developers made one announcement that changes everything.

Glamsterdam — the biggest Ethereum upgrade since The Merge — just entered its final development phase.

Public testnet is coming next week.

✦ On June 17, 2026 — today — Ethereum Foundation core developer Parithosh Jayanthi confirmed that Glamsterdam has entered its final development phase, with all planned EIPs now running on a developer network. He described it as "the final stage before codebase hardening and testnet launch" — and called Glamsterdam "probably the largest fork we have had since the Merge"

✦ If the ePBS testnet remains stable through this week, the first public Glamsterdam testnet will launch next week — followed by client releases, independent security audits, and full testnet validation before mainnet activation

✦ Glamsterdam combines two major upgrades in one — the consensus-layer Gloas upgrade and the execution-layer Amsterdam upgrade. The name itself reflects both components working together for the first time

✦ The three headline changes are EIP-7732, which brings block-building on-chain for the first time and reduces MEV manipulation by up to 70%; EIP-7928, which introduces parallel execution targeting 10,000 transactions per second; and EIP-7904, which reprices gas fees to reduce costs by approximately 78.6%

✦ For ordinary ETH holders — no action is required. Wallets, balances, and existing transactions are completely unaffected. Only validators and node operators need to install updated client software before mainnet activation

✦ Mainnet activation is now targeting end of August 2026 as the base case — after the original June 2026 target was pushed back when the Soldøgn interop devnet concluded May 2. The Sepolia and Hoodi public testnet activations will be the clearest leading indicator of when mainnet is imminent

Ethereum has been the most used smart contract blockchain on earth for years.

Glamsterdam addresses the two biggest criticisms it has ever faced — it is too slow and too expensive.

10,000 TPS. 78.6% cheaper fees. Final development phase confirmed today.

Public testnet next week.

Did you know Glamsterdam just entered its final development stage today — and that the public testnet could launch as early as next week?
