Blockchain security firm CertiK Alert reports that the perpetrator behind last week's massive $282 million social engineering hack has begun laundering the stolen assets through a privacy mixer.
On-Chain Movements:
*800 ETH** (worth approximately $800,000) has been transferred to the privacy protocol Tornado Cash, a common tool for obfuscating the trail of illicit funds.
An additional *$63 million** worth of assets was moved to a new, separate address, likely as part of a consolidation or further laundering step.
Background on the Hack:
As previously reported, the attack occurred on January 11. The victim was tricked via a social engineering scheme, leading to the theft of over $282 million in LTC and BTC. The attacker subsequently converted portions of the stolen assets into Monero (XMR)—a privacy-focused cryptocurrency—and bridged some BTC across multiple blockchains using THORChain. $BTC $ETH $BNB #CryptoNews
