Red Stuff Encoding: A unique 2D erasure-coding algorithm that breaks files into "slivers." This allows the network to reconstruct a file even if up to two-thirds of the storage nodes are offline, while keeping storage overhead very low (only about 4–5x replication vs. much higher for competitors).
Sui Integration: While Walrus is its own network of storage nodes, it uses the Sui blockchain as its coordination layer. Metadata, proofs of availability, and storage resources are managed as "objects" on Sui.
Programmable Storage: Because it's built on Sui, storage space can be tokenized. Developers can write smart contracts that automatically purchase, renew, or transfer storage permissions.
