Monad has unveiled a network upgrade proposal named 'MONAD_NINE,' which is set to activate on both the testnet and mainnet in the first half of February 2026. According to Foresight News, this upgrade includes three core improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency and predictability.
The first improvement, MIP-3 (Linear Memory), will change the cost of expanding EVM memory from quadratic to linear, setting a transaction memory usage limit at 8 MB. This adjustment is designed to reduce resource consumption costs and improve predictability.
The second enhancement, MIP-4 (Reserve Balance Introspection), introduces a new opcode that allows contracts to query in real-time during execution to check for violations of reserve balance rules. This feature enables logic adjustments or early rollbacks if necessary.
Lastly, MIP-5 (Fusaka EIP Activation) will simultaneously activate Ethereum's Fusaka upgrade, incorporating EIP-7823, EIP-7883, and EIP-7939. These changes are expected to streamline operations and improve the overall functionality of the network.
