Hong Kong Customs reported on January 29 that a smuggling case involving a private vehicle was uncovered at the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point on January 27. According to PANews, approximately 219 kilograms of suspected smuggled silver, valued at around HKD 6.1 million, were seized. Following an investigation, customs officials arrested a 46-year-old male driver and a 40-year-old male passenger, charging them with attempting to export unmanifested cargo. The case was brought before the Fanling Magistrates' Court on January 29. Under Hong Kong's Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is considered a serious offense, carrying a maximum penalty of a HKD 2 million fine and seven years imprisonment upon conviction.
