A new report from Redfin reveals the neighborhoods with the highest demand across the U.S.
Redfin ranks U.S. ZIP codes in the 150 most populous metropolitan areas by using year-over-year growth in listing views on Redfin.com and Redfin's Competition Score — a measure of how difficult it is to win a home in a specific area. The area is then ranked on a scale from 0 to 100, with 100 being the most competitive.
The five most vibrant neighborhoods of 2025 are the Midwest suburbs.
Daryl Fairweather, Chief Economist at Redfin, told CNBC Make It: “People are looking for neighborhoods that can access city amenities via public transportation or nearby job opportunities, but they also want the charm of the suburbs, small towns.”
“The South was a desirable place in past years because of more affordable prices than the coast, but insurance costs and property taxes have increased. However, the Midwest has stable insurance costs, stable property taxes, and a stable housing market.”
The report uses data from 2025 from January 1 to February 28, with year-over-year data compared to the same time frame in 2024. To be ranked in Redfin's final list, a ZIP code must have over 50 home sales and a Redfin Competition Score above 50. The ZIP codes on the list may include more than one neighborhood, town, or village, and the report uses the neighborhood name that represents the area covered.
In each of the top 10 hottest neighborhoods, homes are currently selling faster than a year ago. Six of the top 10 neighborhoods have no homes for sale and have seen a decrease in the number of homes listed for sale compared to a year ago.
“This reflects strong demand. When there are more buyers and more sellers, homes sell faster,” Fairweather said.
Hottest neighborhood number one in 2025: Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, NYC

The Prospect Heights-Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn was ranked number one, with a 105% increase in home sales compared to the previous year.
According to Redfin, the median sale price in the area is $1,397,000, up 3.9% from the same time last year.
“Prospect Heights is number one showing that current demand is close to a strong job market like New York, but still remains Brooklyn,” Fairweather said. “It’s a bit more suburban than Manhattan. I think people are looking for a balance between having job opportunities, especially when returning to the office, but still want more space.”
Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill have the charm of a small town in the heart of Brooklyn, with a mix of new buildings and beautiful historic brownstones.
This area is home to the Brooklyn Museum and is just a short walk from Prospect Park, the second-largest park in Brooklyn.

Jenison, Michigan — ZIP code 49428 — is the second hottest neighborhood in the U.S. The median sale price in the area is $356,500, down 0.2% from the same time last year.
Fairweather said Jenison ranks second because of affordability.
“Overall, the Midwest has been stronger this year because it’s one of the few areas of the country that still has affordable prices,” she said. “Even with such high mortgage rates, a middle-class family can still afford to own a home.”
Jenison, Michigan, is a suburb of Grand Rapids. It is less than a 15-minute drive to downtown and less than 30 minutes to Lake Michigan.
