The training ship Cuauhtémoc of the Mexican Navy collided with the Brooklyn Bridge on May 17, 2025, during a goodwill visit to New York, with people in the mast leaving at least 19 injured.

The mast of the ship struck the bridge while leaving South Street Seaport, causing damage and injuries to several people. Reports indicate that there are three critical injuries and 12 serious injuries, but the exact number is not confirmed. Search and rescue operations continue, and the victims were taken to nearby hospitals. The Mexican Navy points to a navigation error due to the height of the masts (171 feet) compared to the bridge's clearance (127 feet).

New York authorities mention a possible loss of power in the engines, no significant damage to the bridge is reported, but inspections continue. Details are still under development.
