Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, appeared to threaten commercial shipping traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Ghalibaf asked on X what share of global oil, liquefied natural gas, wheat, rice, and fertilizer shipments passes through the strait and which countries and companies carry the most cargo there.
