When I first read that OpenLedger is building an AI Marketplace for deploying and monetizing models and agents with transparent revenue flows, something felt familiar in a way I could not immediately place.

Then it clicked.

Every major platform that has tried to create a marketplace for specialized AI models has faced the same fundamental problem. The supply side is relatively easy to build. Developers will create and list models when the listing mechanism is accessible and the economic incentive exists.

The demand side is the hard problem.

An organization evaluating whether to purchase access to a specialized model through OpenLedger's marketplace is not making a simple procurement decision. They are making a trust decision. Does this model's training data represent genuine domain expertise. Is the attribution chain showing where knowledge came from actually meaningful or just a compliance artifact. Will the model perform reliably on our specific inputs rather than just on the benchmarks the creator selected.

Those questions existed before OpenLedger. What changes with the Proof of Attribution layer is that the answers are theoretically verifiable in ways they were not before. A buyer can trace which Datanets contributed to the model. They can examine the contributor profiles and the data quality signals attached to those contributions. The opacity that makes most AI model procurement a trust-based gamble becomes, at least partially, an evidence-based evaluation.

That is a genuine improvement over the baseline. The gap worth examining is between partial verifiability and the confidence level regulated industry procurement actually requires.

A healthcare organization evaluating a clinical documentation model needs more than a traceable attribution chain. They need evidence that the contributors whose data shaped the model had the domain credentials to produce reliable clinical knowledge. Attribution tells you who contributed. It does not automatically tell you whether those contributors were qualified to contribute what they provided.

The marketplace design needs a mechanism for credential verification at the contributor layer that sits alongside the attribution mechanism at the data layer. Without it, the transparent revenue flows the marketplace promises are built on an accountability chain whose foundation is not as verifiable as the on-chain records suggest.

Whether OpenLedger has solved that credential verification problem or whether it is a gap that the marketplace launch will make visible is what the first regulated industry deployments through the marketplace will reveal.

The supply of listed models will likely grow quickly once the marketplace launches. The demand from buyers who need genuine accountability rather than documented accountability is the test that will determine whether the marketplace generates the revenue flows its transparent design promises.
