High-level US-Iran talks that took place in Pakistan have concluded with no agreement reached, despite days of marathon sessions. 🗣️🚫
Iran’s key conditions included complete removal of sanctions, guarantees for its regional influence, and flexibility on its nuclear program. The United States, however, pushed for strict nuclear caps, full transparency with international inspectors, and a halt to support for proxy militias in the region. These core differences proved too wide to bridge.
The US team has now departed Pakistan, while Iranian officials remain for further internal review.
This deadlock is already impacting global markets. Higher oil prices and increased uncertainty are hitting energy-importing nations hardest Pakistan included.
For Pakistan, playing host gave a short-term boost to its image as a diplomatic player, but the failure brings no real economic upside. Instead, the expected rise in fuel costs could add extra burden on the country’s economy.
Diplomats from both sides say the door is still open for future talks, but tensions remain high.
