Rashid Mahmood Langrial and Federal Board of Revenue officials said the issue will be considered in the next budget. Currently, imported phones above $500 face taxes of around 54–55%, while locally assembled devices are taxed near 25%. An 18% GST and additional levies remain in place.
Committee head Sayed Naveed Qamar stressed promoting technology and called for a transparent taxation policy.
