The Maximum Collateral Limit sets a maximum amount of collateral for each token in all Binance Margin Accounts. When the total amount of assets falls below the upper limit, users can transfer in or “top up” assets as collateral or buy the token under Margin Account. When the total amount of a specific token reaches the set percentage of the upper limit, users can only transfer or purchase a fixed amount of assets as collateral (this number is set by Binance, such as 50,000 USD equivalent). When the total amount of assets exceeds the upper limit, assets cannot be transferred in or purchased under Margin Account.

< 80%Transfer in / buy up to 80%* upper limit
80% - 90%50,000 USD equivalent valueThe amount can be updated according to account’s risk status
90% - 100%Only transfer in or buy up to the upper limit with the max capped at 50,000 USD equivalent value

*The ratio represents the current total asset value divided by the upper limit. It applies to the total amount of assets held by all Margin Accounts, not just one specific user account.

Please note:

  • The Maximum Collateral Limit is applicable to ALL Margin Accounts: Cross Margin Classic, Isolated Margin and Portfolio Margin.

Examples of collateral limits

The following examples illustrate the transfer limitations in the case of different asset totals across applicable Margin accounts.

Example 1: Ratio < 80%

The upper limit of Asset 1 is 1,000,000 USD equivalent. User 1 transferred 500,000 USD equivalent into his Margin Account and User 2 can continue to transfer or buy a maximum of 300,000 USD equivalent value of Asset 1 (1,000,000 * 80% - 500,000).

Under such circumstances, User 3 can only transfer up to 50,000 USD equivalent value of Asset 1 into his Margin Account because the limit ratio reaches 80%.

Example 2: Ratio ≥ 80%

The upper limit of Asset 2 is 2,000,000 USD equivalent. User 1 transferred 1,700,000 USD equivalent into his Margin Account. The ratio of total assets / upper limit is 85%, which is greater than 80%. Therefore User 2 can only transfer or buy up to 50,000 USD equivalent value of Asset 2 into his Margin Account.

Example 3: Ratio ≥ 100%

The upper limit of Asset 3 is 3,000,000 USD equivalent. If the total amount of Asset 3 across all Margin Accounts reaches 2,990,000 USD equivalent and User 1 wants to transfer another 50,000 USD equivalent value of Asset 3 into any of his Margin Accounts, he will be notified that “Asset 3 has reached platform max pledged collateral amount. The max transfer-in quantity is 10,000. Please reduce the quantity or try with other tokens”.
