BRO, what kind of phone do you use? 🔔
The iPhone and iPad have become the first devices approved for use with NATO Restricted classified information.
According to the company, after security testing and comprehensive evaluation, the devices were found to meet NATO information security requirements.
This allows them to be used with NATO Restricted data without the need for special software or additional configuration.
"As part of this work, the BSI conducted comprehensive technical assessments, extensive testing, and in-depth security analysis, confirming that Apple's built-in platform security capabilities meet the strict operational and certification requirements of NATO countries," the statement said.
Apple emphasized that no other consumer mobile device currently meets this level of requirements.
The security mechanisms of the iPhone and iPad are also recognized as complying with national and international security standards for working with restricted data. These include device encryption, Face ID authentication, and the Memory Integrity Enforcement feature.
iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 firmware have been certified.
"This achievement recognizes that Apple has changed the traditional approach to security. Before the iPhone, secure devices were only available to government and corporate organizations after significant investment in specialized security solutions," said Ivan Krstic, Apple's vice president of security and architecture.
