Spoke to someone making $34 an hour with a master’s degree. That’s $5,500 a month before anything. After taxes, health insurance, and retirement contributions they take home $3,950. Rent is $1,850. That leaves $2,100 for food, gas, car insurance, student loans, phone, and every single thing that goes wrong. A master’s degree. $34 an hour. And they’re one unexpected bill away from a bad month. This is what we called making it. $BTC $VELVET

My mom paid off her house in 2003. Thought that was it. Thought she was done. Thought it was finally hers. Property taxes were $1,800 a year back then. She’s retired now. Fixed income. Same house. Same neighborhood. Property taxes are $24,000 a year. That’s $2,000 a month. On a house she already paid for. She’s 71 years old and the government sends her a bill every year just to stay in her own home. You never really own anything in America. You just make payments to a different landlord. $VELVET

Phone plan. Car insurance. Streaming. Cloud storage. Software subscriptions. I pay $600 a month in subscriptions for things I used to own once. A CD. A DVD. A map. Microsoft Office on a disc. They figured out ownership was a one time sale. Subscriptions are forever. We went from buying things to renting everything. And we barely noticed it happen. $BTC

I called to cancel my health insurance last month. The rep asked why. I told her $480 a month with a $6,500 deductible isn’t insurance. It’s a subscription to the illusion of being covered. I pay $5,760 a year before they cover a single dollar of anything serious. She went quiet. Offered me a lower tier plan. $390 a month. $8,000 deductible. I hung up. $LAB

My boomer dad went to college for $500 a semester in 1974. Got a job the same month he graduated. Paid off his loans in 8 months. Bought a house at 24. Told me college was the only way. I took out $67,000 in loans. Graduated into a recession. Spent 3 years applying to jobs. I'm 29. Still paying. He still thinks I'm not trying hard enough Make it make sense. $LAB

You'd need to be paid $10,000 a week to have the same spending power as a kid working at McDonald in July of 1971 The math says it's that bad now $LAB

At 20 I thought: - The $8,000 Rolex was cool - The $70,000 Mercedes was cool - The giant yacht party was cool At 35 I now realize: - 6.25 whole Bitcoin is cooler - Gym at 10am on a Tuesday is cooler - Having a relationship with God is cooler Success looks different with age. $LAB

Nobody told you that $200,000 a year would feel like survival. Take home is $10,500 a month after taxes. Mortgage: $3,200. Daycare for two kids: $3,800. Cars: $1,100. Groceries: $900. Insurance: $600. That’s $9,600. Gone. Before a single luxury. Before a vacation. Before an emergency. $200,000 a year and you’re one hospital bill away from panic. They moved the finish line. They just didn’t tell anyone. $SKYAI
