Andrew Gault, CEO of networking firm ZeroTier and founding partner of 7percent Ventures, warns that the most urgent quantum threat to Bitcoin and the broader financial system is not wallet keys but the encrypted authentication data moving between institutions. According to CoinDesk, adversaries are stockpiling encrypted interbank messages and payment records to decrypt once quantum computers become powerful enough. Google and Citi have begun modeling this risk, with Google targeting 2029 for its post-quantum cryptography migration. Ethereum has initiated a post-quantum migration, but Bitcoin and major crypto exchanges have yet to commit publicly to similar protections.
