DeFi’s had the same problem for years.

People love the narrative, love the yields, love talking about “the future” but when it’s time to actually trade size, they go back to CEX.

Why?

Because execution matters more than the story.

Nobody cares if it’s on chain or off chain when the market is moving fast. They care about getting filled properly. They care about speed. They care about not getting destroyed on slippage.

That’s why Genius is interesting to me.

They don’t seem to be building from the usual DeFi angle where users are expected to tolerate a worse experience just because it’s on chain.

That model doesn’t work anymore.

If DeFi wants real traders, the product has to feel good enough to use daily. Simple as that.

And to be fair, the timing makes sense.

Infra is better now. Liquidity is better. More people are comfortable trading on chain than they were a couple years ago.

So the real question now isn’t whether DeFi can compete.

It’s who can actually build something fast, smooth, and easy enough to make traders stay.

Looks like that’s the bet Genius is making.

And honestly, that’s the right bet.
