This marks the largest annual options settlement in history, with the maximum pain point sitting at $96,000. Thin liquidity during the Christmas holiday, combined with aggressive gamma hedging, has effectively pinned BTC in the 85K–90K range for an entire week.
History offers a clear reference: after the December 2023 settlement, BTC surged from $42,000 to $48,000. Following the December 2024 settlement, it jumped from $70,000 to $80,000. Once the settlement pressure fades, volatility tends to return fast.
