Right now the conversation about accountability is the one that the robotics industry is desperately trying to avoid.
The uncomfortable truth is that autonomous systems that are operating today are essentially black boxes.
They make decisions they execute tasks. Occasionally they fail, but the reasoning behind every action is inside proprietary servers that neither regulators, nor insurers, nor the public can access.
That is not a limitation that is a choice.
It is a choice that becomes increasingly dangerous as robots move from controlled warehouse environments into hospitals, city streets and critical infrastructure.
