OpenLedger: Building a Payable AI Economy on Blockchain
OpenLedger is a blockchain platform designed to make artificial intelligence open, verifiable, and fairly compensated. In traditional AI, data contributors and model developers rarely get credit or payment when their work powers an AI output. OpenLedger changes that by recording every step of the AI lifecycle on-chain, so attribution and rewards happen automatically.
The platform centers on three core tools. Datanets let users create or contribute to specialized datasets with clear provenance. ModelFactory provides a simple interface for fine-tuning and training AI models without needing deep ML expertise. OpenLoRA handles efficient deployment, allowing thousands of fine-tuned models to run on a single GPU while keeping costs low and response times fast.
What makes OpenLedger different is Proof of Attribution. When a model generates a result, the system traces which datasets and contributors were involved and distributes rewards in real time. This turns AI from a closed system controlled by large organizations into a collaborative economy where smaller contributors can earn based on the actual value they provide.
The native token, OPEN, powers the entire network. It’s used to pay gas fees for transactions and AI inference, stake AI agents to guarantee service quality, and participate in governance decisions about treasury management and protocol upgrades. Data contributors, developers, and validators earn OPEN based on data quality, model utility, and overall impact.
OpenLedger operates as an EVM-compatible Layer 2 built on the OP Stack, so it’s fast and interoperable with Ethereum tooling. The mainnet launched in late 2025, and the project has partnered with Story Protocol to explore legal licensing and payments for AI training data.
For developers and data owners, OpenLedger offers a way to monetize work that would otherwise be absorbed without recognition. For users, it means access to specialized, community-built AI models with transparent sourcing.
