‎I keep seeing people frame privacy in crypto like it’s some optional feature… something you switch on when things get sensitive. That’s partly why Midnight caught my attention. The network treats privacy less like a toggle and more like “baseline infrastructure.”
‎The idea is pretty straightforward actually. With zero-knowledge proofs, the system can verify that something is true without exposing the underlying data. So you still get the transparency blockchains promise, but without forcing everyone to reveal every detail of what they’re doing. That’s what Midnight calls “rational privacy.” Verification stays public, but personal information doesn’t have to be.

‎For me the bigger takeaway is this: Web3 originally promised people more control over their data… but in practice many systems ended up exposing everything onchain 😅 Midnight seems to be pushing the idea that utility and privacy shouldn’t cancel each other out.
‎And honestly that balance — “verifiable systems without forced transparency” — might end up being more important than people realize.
