"The pre-positioning of HMS Dragon is part of a prudent strategy that will ensure the UK is ready, as part of a multinational coalition co-led by the UK and France, to secure the Strait when conditions allow," stated a spokesperson from the British Ministry of Defence.

American authorities stated that Iranian and American forces exchanged gunfire near the Strait this week, while the United States accused Tehran of disrupting maritime traffic and attacking infrastructure in the Gulf.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US expected an Iranian response "imminently," although both sides have accused each other of violating the truce declared last month.
The Strait of Hormuz accounts for approximately one-fifth of global oil trade, and ongoing disruptions have heightened fears of prolonged supply shocks and increased military escalation in the Gulf.
