This morning, I was glued to the charts and saw $BTC dip down to 78080; I thought we were about to take a hit.
But then, 10 minutes later, it bounced right back, and now it's hovering around 75900. The daily candle is showing almost a 2% drop.
I knew right away that this wasn't a breakout; it was a liquidity hunt.
Contract volume was 12.6 billion, while spot was only 1.3 billion, giving us a ratio of 9.7 times. I watched that number for a bit, and it felt a bit rough—not because of the market, but because I got caught chasing long in a similar setup last time and ended up getting stopped out. With contracts this active and spot volume so low, it shows most of the action is happening in the derivatives market, with both long and short positions getting liquidated. If you chase, you're just adding to the liquidity.
The funding rate is +0.01%, still positive, indicating that bulls haven't been completely crushed yet, but they aren't looking too strong either.
Open interest is at 99249 BTC, with no significant decrease, meaning neither side is bailing out; they're both waiting.
And there's also this backdrop—the news about the Iran talks is making a comeback, and the market's judgment on 'risk sentiment' has been swinging back and forth. U.S. stocks are bouncing, but $BTC isn't following suit, and that divergence has caught my attention. In the past, when U.S. stocks rallied and BTC stayed flat, it meant either BTC was gearing up or capital was pulling out. Right now, I'm leaning towards the latter, but I admit I could be wrong; I thought that last month too and missed out.
The range between 77K and 78K has already been swept today, and the chances of it being absorbed again in the short term are pretty high. There are some orders around 75500, and today's low was 75677, which just held; but I’m not betting it’ll hold.
If I had a position right now, I’d set a stop loss around 75500. If it breaks, I’d get out and wait for the structure to stabilize. I’m not chasing 78K today; that spike this morning already gave me my answer.
I could be wrong; just my take.
