CHINA challenges the limits
Solar energy from space at 36,000 km
The Asian giant is taking the technological race to a literal level. China has announced plans to build a mega solar power plant 1 kilometer in size located in Earth’s orbit, aiming to capture solar energy without interruptions from clouds or night.
Key points of the project
Strategic location: It will be located 36,000 kilometers from Earth, in geostationary orbit.
Infinite energy: Being outside the atmosphere, energy capture is constant and up to six times more efficient than on the surface.
Wireless transmission: Energy will be sent to Earth via microwaves or lasers to receiving stations.
Although China seeks leadership, it is not alone in this solar conquest. The United States, Japan, and the European Union have already successfully conducted tests, demonstrating that wireless energy transmission is no longer science fiction.
Why does this matter in the tech ecosystem?
This type of critical infrastructure not only seeks sustainability but also drives the development of new materials and autonomous control systems. Will we see in the future an integration of these energy flows with decentralized infrastructures? The race for space energy sovereignty has begun.
Do you think this is the definitive future of clean energy or is it too high a technical risk? I’ll read your thoughts in the comments. 👇
